Give us no deal or the Brexit Party will decimate the Tory vote warns Ann Widdecombe

Ann Widdecombe has said the Brexit Party has the choice to decimate either the Tories or Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party in the next general election, and it’s up to Boris Johnson to decide what path the party takes. In a harrowing warning to the Prime Minister, the former Tory MP said: “We can take Labour on in its heartlands and people who wouldn’t vote Tory in a million years would vote for us.” But Ms Widdecombe says Mr Johnson can increase his chances of securing a parliamentary majority by forging a pact with the Brexit Party – but only if the Tories agrees to leave the EU without a deal.

The Brexit Party MEP told Express.co.uk: “We’ve said very clearly to Boris, we couldn’t have said it more clearly that if he agrees to try and leave without a deal and that is what his aim is we will try to deliver him a majority.

“We can take Labour on its heartlands and people who wouldn’t vote Tory in a million years would vote for us.

“We can take Labour on there and reduce the Labour majority and as long as he in turn gives us a free run in other seats and we don’t fight the Brexiteers then you have got a very sensible electoral arrangement and that’s what we have offered.”

In fact, she said that the Brexit Party would be willing to form an electoral part with “anybody who wants Brexit”.

But when asked if the party would be willing to forge one with Labour, she laughed and said: “absolutely not”.

Ms Widdecombe said a general election may be the only way to solve the current deadlock in Parliament over Brexit indecision.

She said: “If the Government cannot govern and if what the people decided is being very slowly overturned by people who don’t agree with the decision then the only way you can resolve this is to go to the country and try and get a Government with a clear mandate.”

Mr Johnson has twice been stopped from calling a general election, after being unable to secure the two-thirds majority needed to trigger a snap vote under the Fixed Term Parliaments Act.

It also blocks a no deal Brexit.

The Bill was passed into law on Monday, forcing Mr Johnson to secure a new deal with the EU.

Ms Widdecombe branded the Bill a “wrecking attack” as it weakens the UK’s negotiating position in Brussels.

She said: “The Remainers have done their level best to throw brambles across his path.

“Now whether he can tear those brambles away remains to be seen.”

Ms Widdecombe, who served as a Tory MP from 1987 to 2010, praised Mr Johnson’s determination to leave Europe and said: “He’s certainly doing a better job than Theresa May.”

But the Brexiteer vilified Parliament for trying to stop the Prime Minister from honouring the 2016 referendum result.

She said: “Clearly what Parliament have tried to do is make it impossible to honour the existing deadline, they have made it quite impossible to negotiate with any strength.”
