She also suffered diarrhoea and sickness after a day at Tapnell Farm plus trips to an Isle of Wight arcade and beach.

Mum Lauren Aspery, 21, who took partner Lewis Keith and Isla, said: “It was terrifying. I thought we were going to lose our little girl.”

“I really believed this was just a bad case of sickness.

“The doctor took a breath and told us that ‘Isla is very very poorly, much more sick than we thought’.

“From this moment on everything that the doctor said felt like a bad dream. Isla had kidney failure.

“Her kidneys did not function at all and her body wasn’t able to cope. This turned into a matter of life or death.”

‘LIFE OR DEATH’

E.coli, a bacteria found in the gut, can be caught by eating contaminated food or touching infected animals and people.

Isla, of Whiteley, Hants, is still not back at school a month after the visit.

Dr Anand Fernandes said: “E.coli O157 can cause a range of symptoms, from mild diarrhoea to severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhoea.

“The best form of defence is to make sure you thoroughly wash your hands before preparing or eating food, or if you have been in contact with any animal or their faeces.

“Anyone who suspects they may have a diarrhoea or illness should drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and if they have severe symptoms should contact NHS 111 or their GP.”

Tapnell Farm wished her “a speedy recovery”.

Public Health England is investigating the cause.
