Girl, 10, praised after refusing to answer a ‘rude’ maths test question about the weights of three women

A SCHOOLGIRL has been praised for refusing to answer a maths test question which asked her to compare the weights of three female students.

Rhythm Pacheco, 10, wrote her teacher a “courageous” message telling her she found a task on the homework she had been set “offensive” because it judged people on their appearance.

Her mum, Naomi, was surprised to find a note her daughter, who lives with her in Utah, was prompted to pen after coming across the “rude” question.

It asked her to work out “how much heavier” a student called Isabelle was than another named Sue.

In a picture of the message shared online by the proud parent, Rhythm wrote: “This is offensive. Sorry I won’t right this it’s rood.”

She added on another part of the paper: “I don’t want to be rude but I don’t think that math problem was very nice because that’s judging people’s weight.

“Also the reason I did not do the sentence is because I just don’t think that’s nice. Love Rhythm.”

The little girl has since been praised for standing up “for what is right”.

Taking to Facebook, one person wrote: “Way to go Rhythm!

“Love how strong of a person you are at a young age. This will serve you well in life.”

Another commented: “As someone who grew up as an overweight child in the 70s I can tell you it was absolutely brutal.

“Zero tolerance was not a thing, kudos to this child for being sensitive to others’ disabilities.”

Speaking to Today, her mum said: “Rhythm’s dad and I were extremely proud of Rhythm for listening to her gut instincts and standing up for what is right.

“Rhythm’s teacher was so responsive and handled the situation with such care. She told her she understands how she would be upset about this and that she didn’t have to write out the answer.”
