Gin firm toasts 20% sales boost from distribution deal

A mother-and-daughters’ craft gin firm has seen a 20% sales boost on the back of a new distribution deal.

Smithies Gin in Arbroath, founded by Patti Smith and daughters Beth and Jill, recently signed a distribution deal with Dundee-based drinks distribution firm Huffmans which sells to bars and restaurants and operates online outlets the Craft Bottle Shop and Masters of Malt.

Patti Smith “We are thrilled our sales and our availability across Scotland is increasing, and less than a year since we launched.

“There are so many gins out there, many with the backing of established distilleries behind them but we are the epitome of an independent craft gin.  We came up with the idea around our kitchen table of creating a delicious gin using ingredients from our own garden so to see this growth is a fantastic result.”

Smithies has recently been named as finalists in two categories in the Scottish Gin Awards; London Dry Gin of The Year, and  Excellence in Branding. The gin also came 4th in the annual list of Scottish Field’s Top 12 gins in which they also won bronze in the category for best gin over £30.

Smithies has recently launched their first flavoured gins including Honeycomb Old Tom, based on cinder toffee.
