Gimme, gimme more roar: 'Tiger King' aftershow episode to feature interviews with stars

Just when you think you’ve seen all possible “Tiger King” memes…

Former “Community” star and host of “The Soup” Joel McHale will host an aftershow, “The Tiger King and I,” coming to Netflix Sunday, April 12. According to the streaming service, new interviews will give those featured in the docu-series the opportunity to speak their truths.

“Tiger King” depicted the life of former zoo owner Joe Exotic (born Joseph Schreibvogel) over seven episodes. It captured his life at Oklahoma’s Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park (referred to as the G.W. Zoo) and his hatred for Carole Baskin, founder of Big Cat Rescue sanctuary in Tampa, Florida. Joe deemed Baskin a threat to his livelihood through her advocacy of the Big Cat Public Safety Act, which aims to abolish ownership of big cats as pets and the practice of cub petting.

Netflix’s official Twitter account shared that subjects featured in the additional episode will include Joe’s ex-husband, John Finlay, his former campaign manager Joshua Dial and Jeff Lowe, the man who took over the Oklahoma zoo.

The tweet included a video with McHale dressed in a cowboy hat, leopard-print scarf and low-rise pants that showed off his hand-drawn “Netflix” tattoo Finlay-style.

“It’s eye-opening and hopefully funny,” McHale said.

The docu-series garnered more than 34 million viewers within the first 10 days of its March 20 release, according to Nielsen, and was even brought to President Trump’s attention.

Joe was arrested in 2018 and found guilty of 19 counts, included attempted murder for hire of Baskin, killing five tigers and the selling of lion and tiger cubs. In January 2020, he was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

At a White House press conference Wednesday, a reporter asked the president for his thoughts on pardoning the “Tiger King” star. Trump said he knew “nothing” about the case and said, perhaps jokingly, “I’ll take a look.”
