Ghostbusters: Afterlife – first trailer lands

The original Ghostbusters – minus the late Harold Ramis – have answered the call of Juno and Tully director Jason Reitman, and are getting back to business. Sony has just released a first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a belated sequel that will ignore Paul Feig’s rebooted 2016 franchise offering and pull the original cast back to their iconic characters.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts will all be back in this one, and they’re joined by some new recruits – Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor and none other than Mr. Paul Rudd, star of Marvel’s Ant-Man movies and notable retainer of inexplicably ageless beauty. Filming began in Calgary, Alberta last July under the working title ‘Rust City’ and wrapped in October.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows a family who begin to unlock both the hidden secrets of their history and the secrets of their home town, to which they’ve recently moved back. Inevitably, ghosts will need busting. Will it make you feel good? Only time will tell.

Watch the first trailer:

“Jason Reitman wrote a beautiful, heartfelt script that takes the real DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third, the next generation. It hands the legacy off to a new generation of stars, and players, and actors, and characters,” Dan Aykroyd said back when the movie was still in production.

“So I’m pretty excited. You never know in the film business. Nobody knows about anything. ‘Nobody knows nothing,’ as the great writer William Goldman said. Nobody knows anything, you don’t know what’s going to be a hit or not. But I have really good feelings for this, just because of the quality of the stars we’ve got there.”

We shall see next summer, when Ghostbusters: Afterlife is released on 10 July, 2020.
