In couples struggling to conceive, it upped the likelihood of getting pregnant by 91 per cent.

Independent sleep expert Neil Stanley said: “If you want to conceive, see sleep as king.

“Get a good night’s sleep, then have sex in the morning or at lunchtime.”

Researchers in India quizzed nearly 200 women having IVF treatment.

Forty-four per cent of those who got eight hours’ kip a night became pregnant, data presented to the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology showed.

It was 23 per cent for those with up to six hours’ sleep.

About one in six UK couples has trouble conceiving.

Experts say the sleep advice applies to all — not just IVF patients.

Professor Geeta Nargund, of Create fertility clinics, said: “Getting enough sleep benefits hormonal balance.”
