GETTING a cancer check should be as easy as booking a holiday online, an official review claims.
Prof Sir Mike Richards — tasked with overhauling NHS screening — blasted the current appointments system as “no longer fit for purpose”.

The former Government cancer tsar wants to see text reminders, home testing and evening appointments.
He said: “People live busy lives and we need to make having a screening appointment as simple and convenient as booking a plane ticket online.
“The technology exists in many other walks of life.
“By adopting it across the NHS we can help identify even more cancers early, when they are easier to treat.”
His interim report comes after figures show the number of women getting smear tests for cervical cancer is at a 21-year low.

Screening for bowel and breast cancers have also not met targets.
Sara Hiom, at Cancer Research UK, agreed that “inadequate IT systems” were “barriers to screening”.
Baroness Delyth Morgan, of Breast Cancer Now, said: “Text reminders and more flexible appointments could make a real difference.”
