While materials may be harder to buy, blogger and early-years specialist Claire Russell, below, of play hooray.co.uk, has some creative ideas using objects in your home.

Box fresh: It’s the simple things that can often be the most fun.

Claire says: “Get creative with a big box. Make a shop, robot, spaceship, den, post office, house — the options are endless and once they have built their creation, they can engage in fun role play and come back to it again and again.”

Hop to it: Your Easter plans may be slightly different to previous years, but you can get the kids in the mood with a few activities.

Claire says: “Try making some paper-bag bunnies. All you need are some brown paper bags, a pink highlighter, black marker pen, sticky tape, scissors and cottonwool balls. Get kids to draw the bunny’s face on the paper, cut out and colour his ears and feet before sticking on and adding the fluffy tail.”

Even though Easter might be different this year, you can still  get the kids in the mood for making some paper-bag bunnies

No dough: Who doesn’t have fond memories of play dough? If you are all out, you can make your own using flour, salt, water and food dye or washable paint.

Claire says: “It’s super simple, really soft and smells gorgeous too. Once it’s made, you make people, cakes, or dress your action figures or Barbie dolls.”

Fun in the sun: Getting outdoors for some fresh air is vital during these uncertain times, even if it is just to your garden.

Claire says: “Pick up some natural resources to use in art projects. Kids will love painting pebbles or leaf rubbing with crayons.”
