IF your Christmas decorations have seen better days, you don’t have to pay a fortune to update them.
There are plenty of ways to give your home a festive flourish without blowing loads of cash.
Follow our DIY tips and you’ll be all set for Christmas and have plenty of cash left over for presents.
Get crafty: Bauble wreaths make a great alternative but can be costly — unless you make them yourself.
John Lewis are currently selling a brightly coloured rainbow wreath for £25, but if you make your own using coloured baubles from B&M, £5.99, and pipe cleaners, £3 at HobbyCraft, you can cut the cost considerably — and still have baubles to spare for your tree.
Pine and dandy: Pine cones make fantastic bases for DIY decorations and you really don’t need to buy expensive ones. If you can’t find pine cones while out and about, you can pick packs of four of them up from £1.69 on eBay.
Decorate with glitter or golden paint to add a festive touch, then simply hang from ribbons and you’re good to go. Similar shop-bought decorations cost £8 for three (around £2.66 each) at John Lewis.
Save: Up to £2.66 per cone
Tree-sy peasy: Personalise your tree with your own decorations. Making your own will also be a fun activity for the kids.
Hobbycraft is selling plain ceramic snowflake decorations for £1, you can the add your own colours and designs easily by using brush pens, £4 for a pack of eight different colours, from The Works.
Doing DIY personalisation works out far cheaper than buying — as similar decorations cost £3.95 each at Not On The High Street.
Saving: £7.80 when you make four
Save dough: Making salt dough decorations will keep your kids entertained. Mix a cup of flour with a cup of salt and half a cup of water to make your dough. Then add food colouring.
Kids can cut shapes with cookie cutters and, after they’ve dried out, decorate with glitter, sequins and paint.
