Geri makes teary apology to Spice Girls bandmates during final night of tour

It has been one of the biggest British pop comebacks since time began.

After an 18-year hiatus, the band, minus Victoria Beckham, reunited for a 13-date UK and Ireland tour.

Kicking off in Dublin and wrapping up at Wembley last night, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, wowed the crowds with their back catalogue of hits and tons of girl power.

The group famously hit headlines in 1998 when Geri decided to leave the band, two years before they officially disbanded.

Ginger Spice called it quits on May 31 1998 to pursue a solo career, which spanned two albums and two Brit nominations for Best British Female Solo Artist and Best Pop Act.

During their final tour last night, a contemplative Geri made an emotional on-stage apology to her fellow bandmates over her departure two decades ago.

During the set, she said: “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I left. I was just being a brat.

“I want to say it’s just so good to be back with the girls that I love.”

Geri’s decision to quit the band came after the group just wrapped up their Spiceworld world tour.

The news of her exit shocked fans and became one of the biggest entertainment news stories of the year, making headlines the world over.

Citing exhaustion and differences between the band, she released a statement via her solicitor.

It read: “This is a message to the fans. Sadly, I would like to confirm that I have left the Spice Girls.

“This is because of differences between us, I am sure the group will continue to be successful and I wish them all the best.”
