Geri Horner rivals Victoria Beckham as she shows off dressmaking skills

Geri Horner née Halliwell appears to be a dab hand at dressmaking.

The former Spice Girl, 48, unveiled her remarkable sewing skills in a video for her new YouTube series Rainbow Woman on Sunday.

The singer – who rose to fame as Ginger Spice – wowed behind her sewing machine as she followed a pattern to craft a stunning white Givenchy dress worn by iconic actress Audrey Hepburn in Rome in 1964.

Giving her former bandmate Victoria – who has since turned her back on music in favour of being a fashion designer – a run for her money, the impressive footage follows Geri as she begins by tracing and cutting out the pattern on a piece of white fabric.

She then was shown meshing the pieces together with thread on her electric sewing machine.

The hitmaker proudly showcased the results of her sewing session as she modelled the gorgeous garment when it was finished.

Geri later shared snaps onto her Instagram page from her work and explained: “Got my scissors out! Dressmaking inspired by Audrey Hepburn, her style is timeless.”

In 2016 Victoria, who has received critical acclaim for her VB fashion range, revealed that she is a hands-on designer.

The wife of footballing ace David Beckham, who launched her clothing brand in 2008, took to Instagram to show that she is not afraid of getting behind a sewing machine.

The image showed the brunette beauty dressed in a white robe as she manoeuvred the needle machine.

Victoria typed next to the snap: “Just started work on the pre-collection! X #supercoolshoot X vb.”

It came after Victoria admitted that she does not sketch her designs during an interview with The Times, twelve years ago.

When quizzed of is she draws or stitches, she told: “Do I draw? No. Then again, nor do lots of designers. But I put it all on myself and walk around in it, and I know what feels comfortable. I know how a dress should sit.

“I’ve worn so many in the past and when I see the photographs I think, crikey, my boobs are up round my neck again because the corsets are too short and not cut high enough. “

“Like I knew I would spend a lot on the best-quality zips because, like many women, I’ve had my share of cr***y zips.

“I wanted a zip that undoes from both ends because then you can either put the dress on over your head or, if you don’t want to mess up your hair, you can step into it – and also, you know, going to the loo wouldn’t be this whole big palaver.”

Spice Girl fans may have forgotten but Geri launched her own fashion line for Next back in 2011 – three years after Victoria made a name for herself on the runway.

Geri created six evening dresses for the shop after successfully winning shoppers over with a bikini range in January of the same year.

Speaking at the launch about he eye for fashion, the star shared at the time: “I’ve been sketching everything myself and I’m thrilled with the results.

“I’ve had the opportunity to make dresses that are not stupidly expensive but still elegant enough to wear to an upmarket event.”
