Georginio Wijnaldum sends message to Liverpool teammates after Watford defeat

Georginio Wijnaldum has told his Liverpool teammates to ‘learn and improve’ from the Watford defeat that ended their unbeaten run.

Liverpool were out of sorts from the side which has raced 22 points clear at the top of the table, as they were beaten convincingly by the Hornets in a 3-0 scoreline .

The Reds had gone 44 Premier League games unbeaten prior to the loss, having not lost in the competition since January last year.

It had arguably been coming for the title chasers, after they rode their luck in recent sub-par performances against Norwich and West Ham .

And Wijnaldum has provided a stern warning for his side to shape up and get back to their best.

Posting on Instagram after the defeat, Wijnaldum said: “Tough losses should be an opportunity to improve. Time to regroup and give it our all in the very next opportunity we get.”

In a separate post on his Instagram story, Wijnaldum added: “When you don’t win, make sure you learn.”

Liverpool went two goals behind in the league for the first time in almost a year, with Watford forward Ismaila Sarr grabbing a brace.

Sloppy defending allowed Sarr in both times to score, before Troy Deeney added a third after Watford capitalised on a poor backpass from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “You have to accept it, it’s not so easy, but it’s the proof we were not good enough tonight. It’s always very difficult.”
