George Clooney has spoken about his brush with death last summer when his motorcycle collided with a moving car at 70 miles per hour.

The 58-year-old says he thought he’d broken his neck last July when he smashed the windshield of a Mercedes ‘with his head’ and broke his helmet clean in half.

Now a father of two-year-old twins, George has confirmed he will never ride again – not least because his wife Amal Clooney, 41, has expressly forbidden him.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter this week, George revealed: ‘[The impact] split my helmet in half, it knocked me out of my shoes. I was hit hard.

‘I was just waiting for the switch to turn off because I broke his windshield with my head, and I thought, “OK, well, that’s my neck.” If you get nine lives, I got all of them used up at once.’

After 40 years of riding motorcycles, the Hollywood actor said he ‘had to’ quit, one month after telling a panel that the accident ‘screwed’ up his wife Amal, who promptly banned him from getting back on a bike.

George was living in Sardinia filming Catch-22 when the accident happened on a morning ride, last summer.

He was reportedly launched 20-feet into the air before being rushed to Olbia hospital in Sardinia, but miraculously, he was not seriously injured and was discharged to recover at home shortly afterward.

The actor returned to the set of Catch-22 within a matter of weeks and is now on the promotional tour to see it premiere on Hulu.

‘That was a really fun time,’ he joked. ‘I’ve learned that I really, actually, cannot fly. I learned that lesson really well.’
