George Clooney feared he would never see his twin children again, after being involved in a terrifying motorbike crash.

The actor, 59, hit a car while riding his motorbike at 75mph in Sardinia. He had been heading to the set of his 2019 TV series Catch-22 when a car turned directly in front of him and Clooney collided with the vehicle.

The impact saw him go ‘head over heels’ and he luckily escaped without any major injuries, but Clooney admits he feared the worst and was convinced he was never going to see his kids he shares with wife Amal Clooney, Alexander and Ella, both three, again.

In an interview with GQ, to mark being named the publication’s icon of the year for 2020, George recalled the accident and describing how he had felt, he said: ‘Mostly it was just the thought that this was it and that I wasn’t gonna see [my kids] again.’

He has vowed never to ride a motorbike again, after being forbidden to by wife Amal, and Clooney revealed that he’d since watched back CCTV footage of his crash.

‘I launched. I go head over heels, but I landed on my hands and knees. If you did it 100 times, maybe once you land on your hands and knees, and any other version you land you’re toast,’ he pointed out.

The Ocean’s Twelve star said the impact of the crash literally ‘knocked him out of his shoes’ and he’d thought he’d lost his teeth, after his mouth was covered in glass from the car’s smashed windshield.

But, the one thing that sticks out in Clooney’s mind is that while he was laying on the ground, with his head in his friend’s lap, waiting for the ambulance to arrive at the scene, people were stood around taking pictures.

‘All these people came and stood over me and just pulled out their phones and started taking video,’ Clooney said, adding: ‘I’ll never forget the moment that, what I thought might be my last few moments, was for everyone else a piece of entertainment.’

In his interview, Clooney also opens up about his decision to gift 14 of his friends $1million (£774,000) each. He presented each pal with a suitcase full of cash in 2013 as he wanted to repay them for always being there for him over the years.

His generous gift came a year before Clooney and his wife Amal tied the knot in Venice in September 2014.

The couple welcomed their twins three years later in June 2017, with George revealing just months before their arrival that he was ’embracing’ fatherhood at 56.

‘It’s going to be an adventure,’ he gushed. ‘We’ve sort of embraced it all… with arms wide open.’
