Genius mum turns £1 rubber duck into a tap cover to stop son from hitting his head or burning himself in the bath

WHENEVER our little ones are getting in and out of the bath, they’re forever burning ourselves or smashing our head against the tap. No matter how hard we try to avoid it.

That said, one mum has come up a genius (and purse-friendly) way around this common problem – and all you need is a cheap rubber duck.

The mum made a small hole in the back and bottom of the rubber duck and placed it over her tap

Writing in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the mum explained how she didn’t want to spend £10 or more on a tap cover for her nine-month-old son.

Instead, the savvy mum altered the £1 rubber duck she’d bought in Poundland into a cute tap cover – and the best part is, it matched the others in her collection.

She explained: “I just cut a cross [on the back] and it fits tightly on my tap.”

And to save herself always needing to take it on and off whenever she runs a bath, the mum made a hole in the bottom too.

She added: “I cut another hole in the bottom in case I needed to add more water to the bath and woohoo £1 tap cover which goes with the rest of the rubber ducks in the bathroom.”

Unsurprisingly, the woman’s bath time hack proved a hit in the group and racked up over 2,600 “likes”.

One replied: “Great idea, I’ve been wrapping the taps with dishtowels to stop any unwanted hot or cold drips inadvertently landing on my wee one – but this looks more fitting!”

“Looks so cute,” another added. “I used to wrap a handle towel round, you’re right the ‘proper covers’ are sooooo expensive for what they are. Wish I’d thought of this.”

And although others labelled it a “genius idea”, one recommended cleaning the duck often to avoid a build-up of mould.

They wrote: “Don’t forget to take it off and clean it out regularly in case of mould. But well done, one safe bubba.”

In more parenting news, this mum used her Amazon Alexa to potty train her son – and parents think it’s brilliant.

And this mum has been hailed a “genius” for taking her modem on a family day trip after her teenagers refused to go.

Plus this cheeky toddler covered a £1,600 TV in nappy cream after being left along for five minutes.
