Genius mum tricks children into doing their chores by hiding their phones in a ‘cleaning treasure hunt’

AS any parent of teenagers will already know, trying to get them to help out around the house is certainly no small feat.

However, one imaginative mum has now come up with an ingenious way of getting her children to do their chores – and we don’t know why we never thought of it before.

In order to coerce her kids into cleaning the house, an Australian mum wrote a series of instructions on post-it notes which she then scattered around the home for her children to follow.

Social media expert Lars Halvorsen first brought the idea of a “cleaning treasure hunt” to our attention by sharing it on his Facebook page.

Kicking off the treasure hunt, the mum wrote: “Good morning my darlings!

“Can’t find your phones? So sorry. If you do a thorough enough job cleaning the bathroom, their location will be revealed.”

But while the children in question thought they would be reunited with their phones after this one tedious task was out the way, they were horrified to discover their mother had another trick up her sleeve.

On a separate post-it note, the mum teased: “Nice job cleaning! Your phones are in a place you’ve likely never seen – the bottom of your hamper.

“Unfortunately they are dead. Empty the dishwasher to reveal the location of the chargers.”

In what is perhaps the most passive aggressive thing we’ve ever had the pleasure of reading, the mum then revealed that “the chargers are in the EMPTY cereal box one of you put back in the pantry.”

In another genius twist in the treasure hunt, the mum also changed the family WiFi password once the kids finally found their phones.

Bringing her treasure hunt to its conclusion, she teased: “Having fun yet?

“Take out the trash and recycling and come find me to get the new WiFi password.”

In more parenting news, this mum has blasted the child who beat up her son as a “jerk” and says his mother is an “a**wipe”.

And this mum was left gobsmacked when she was charged £68 for her daughter’s ear piercing at Claire’s Accessories.

Plus this neat-freak mum has made an “easy read flip chart” list of chores she does daily so her husband can’t avoid helping out.
