Generation Z: new C4 zombie comedy coming from Ben Wheatley

What’s the biggest threat facing the youth of today? Climate catastrophe? The obesity epidemic? Knife crime? How about the rapacious greed of the older generation, gobbling up all the homes, government spending and prospects?

That’s the premise for Channel 4’s new dark comedy Generation Z, a satirical zombie series on its way from director Ben Wheatley (Free FireHigh RiseKill List). Due to go into production in 2020, it’s a six-part, hour-long comedy-drama about the bloody generational battle.

Here’s the synopsis:

In a small British town, tensions come to a head when a mysterious military convoy crashes outside the Sunnywise Retirement Home. The vehicles were carrying a toxic substance, which, as a result of the crash, leaks into the local environment and infects the residents of the retirement community. The symptoms of this infection quickly manifest – an overwhelming appetite for raw flesh. They’re old, they’re angry and they’re on the rampage. As the military scrambles to control the outbreak and keep everything out of the media spotlight, a group of regular teenagers find themselves in the thick of the battle against these flesh-eating baby boomers.

All six episodes will be written and directed by Wheatley, so expect black humour and unflinching horror in what Channel 4 is describing as “a bloody and messy battle royale.”

Flesh-eating pensioners? We’re getting Nanageddon vibes…
