General election vote: Who is voting in election – list of those able to vote and how


To vote you must also be aged 18 or overs on the day of the election.

In addition, you must be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen.

There are approximately 895,000 qualifying Commonwealth citizens eligible to vote.

You must also have registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years and not be legally excluded from voting.

British citizens living abroad may vote in UK general elections, however, there are some restrictions.
