General election LIVE: Boris Johnson gears up for election as Amber Rudd steps down

AMBER RUDD has announced she’s stepping down as an MP and quitting Parliament – weeks after she quit Boris Johnson’s Cabinet.

The UK is set to go to the polls on December 12 after MPs backed the PM’s calls for a general election last night.

The bill now goes to the House of Lords and if it passes, Brits are going to the ballot boxes.

But the ex-Work and Pensions boss has said she will step down from the Commons and won’t stand again to be an MP in the upcoming poll.
