General Election 2019: What time do polls open tomorrow?

After a long campaign, the UK will vote for a new government in the general election tomorrow.

Both Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn will be hoping they’ve done enough to win voters’ trust with their policies on the likes of Brexit , the NHS and austerity.

Millions of Brits will head to the polls to choose their new MP, and by Friday morning we should have an idea of what the next government will look like – whether it’s a majority, a hung parliament or another coalition.

Here are all the logistics you’ll need for polling day tomorrow, including what time polls open in the morning – and what to do if you have an emergency and can’t get to your polling station to vote:

What time do polls open?

Polls will open at 7am tomorrow morning (Thursday 12 December), and close at 10pm.

As long as you are in the queue at the polling station by 10pm, you will still be able to cast your vote.

The vote count will begin as soon as polls close, and we can expect exit polls at 10pm.

What happens if you can’t get to the polling station?

If you have a medical emergency on polling day and cannot make it to vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy vote.

This only applies if you yourself have fallen ill – you can’t get an emergency proxy vote if a member of your family has had an emergency.

The application for an emergency proxy vote on medical grounds must also be supported by a registered health professional, such as a doctor, nurse, optician, or psychologist.

Polls open at 7am on election day, giving you plenty of time to cast your vote

You can also apply for an emergency proxy vote if you are called away for work unexpectedly.

Can you vote online?

No.

What happens if you forgot to send your postal vote?

For your postal vote to be counted, your local authority needs to have received it by 10pm on Thursday 12 December. If you’ve left it too late to get it there by post, you can hand it in at your local polling station.

Can you vote if you forgot to register?

No, if you are not registered, you will not be able to vote in this general election.
