General election 2019: Momentum urges activists to tell Lib Dem voters Jeremy Corbyn is ‘best bet’ for Remain

A leaked briefing from Left-wing movement Momentum is giving different messages to both leave voters and remainers.

The document, titled “Having Difficult Conversations On The Doorstep”, advises canvassers on how to respond to Liberal Democrat voters.

It suggests saying: “If you want to remain in the EU then your best bet is to vote Labour.”

It adds: “There is no point voting for the Lib Dems if you are serious about remaining.”

However, official party policy is that a Labour government would renegotiate the Brexit deal which would then be put to a public vote within six months.

The party has been accused of sitting on the fence over Brexit in an attempt to appeal to both leavers and remainers.

As well as advice for remain supporters the document says: “Labour has an offer for both leavers and remainers.”

It adds: “The majority of people who voted to leave wanted to take back control of an economy which has been rigged in favour of the few and to gain greater control over their lives.”

The document also suggests how to deal with issues such as the Labour Party’s internal problems, anti-Semitism and voter fears that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn supports terrorism.

It comes as Mr Corbyn was heckled by a supporter of a second Scottish independence referendum as the Labour leader gave a speech at the Queens Hotel in Dundee.

On the second day of his Scottish tour, Mr Corbyn was interrupted by a shouting member of the audience who asked him what he planned to do about the “will of the Scottish people”.

The man shouted: “Is this democracy?”

Corbyn tried to quieten him, saying: “It’s perfectly democratic when we listen to each other, so I’ll listen to you in a moment.”

“Take your hands off me,” the heckler shouted as people grabbed him. He was then ejected to the cheers and claps of the audience.
