Gemma Atkinson questions her actions after Gorka’s big gesture: ‘Why am I doing this?’

Gemma Atkinson has spoken about fitting in exercise, eight months after the birth of her first child with beau Gorka Marquez. The actress explained her thought process after her Strictly Come Dancing beau updated their home for her.

The 35-year-old has explained how the professional dancer, 29, transformed their garage into a gym.

The ex Hollyoaks regular admitted it is now much easier to fit in a work-out, but has left her asking: “Why am I doing this?”

During an interview with the latest issue of Women’s Health, Gemma addressed her gym sessions and the effect they have on her, as well as the change she made after undergoing a C-section.

She commented: “Gorka knew how much my fitness meant to me, so he built a gym in our house.

“A big part of the battle for many people is getting to the gym in the first place, so knowing it’s only two seconds away makes it a lot easier.”

But Gemma then said: “[Although] I often think, ‘Why am I doing this when there’s a fridge and a comfy sofa next door?’”

The small screen favourite, who met Gorka on Strictly, said she loves the way exercising “puts me in a good mood”.

She continued: “It gives me more enthusiasm and more patience for Mia, for myself, for everyone.

She also added: “Now I’m a mum, I can’t really plan anything – I just go hour by hour.”

Meanwhile, today it was announced Gemma has teamed up with leading UK pet charity, Blue Cross, to produce a podcast series for animal lovers: The Petcast.

The six-part offering will hear her – along with celebrity guests, expert vets, animal behaviourists, and real life pet owners – discussing a wide variety of topics related to pet welfare and how to live your best life with your pet.

These will include Gemma Merna, Laura Tott and Gorka’s BBC co-star and fellow pro Karen Hauer.

Gemma said: “I have grown up with animals and now have two dogs myself – Ollie and Norman – so I know that being a pet owner comes with a ton of fun but is not without its challenges and responsibilities.

“Becoming a mother very recently, I’ve also experienced what it’s like to introduce a baby into a home with pets – something that was very new to me, and also daunting because it was so important that all my family members, including the furry ones, get along.”

Gemma Atkinson previously slammed claims she “faked” pictures after Mia’s birth as her C-Section scar apparently wasn’t visible.

The full interview appears in the April issue of Women’s Health, on sale now.
