Gemma Atkinson boyfriend: Her ultimatum to Strictly's Gorka 'I'm not part of the family'


Former Hollyoaks actress and radio presenter Gemma Atkinson is currently on maternity leave from her Hits Radio show, however, appeared for a chat this week. Gemma gave birth to daughter Mia on July 4, her first child with boyfriend and Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez. The pair met on the BBC show, but what was the ultimatum Gemma delivered to Gorka?

Speaking on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Gemma was asked about the naming ceremony for her two-month-old daughter.

Her colleague Greg Burns asked of her daughter’s name: “And you made it official yesterday, didn’t you? The naming ceremony?”

Gemma said: “Yeah, you get them registered. Yeah, it was quite sad because until then apparently they officially take the mum’s name but once registered she’s an official Marquez.

“And I’m the only one now who’s not a Marquez in the family.”

Greg then said it was a huge “hint” to Gorka that he should pop the question.

Gemma said: “I said to him, ‘You do know now we need to get married otherwise I’m not part of the family?’

“He’s like, ‘Yeah we have time, it’s OK’.”

Earlier this year it was revealed Gorka he would not be partnering up with a celebrity partner for the 2019 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

This came as a shock to many but might be so that the 29-year-old can spend more time with Gemma and baby Mia.

As the news came that Gorka would not be returning with a celebrity partner, new mum Gemma encouraged her partner to “keep going”.

An adorable video clip was shown on Strictly: The Professionals with Gemma, 34, holding baby Mia while saying: “Hi Gorks, just wanted to say how proud we are of you.

“So keep going, keep making us proud and keep dancing.”

Gorka revealed he would not be taking to the Strictly ballroom with a celebrity partner on Instagram.

He wrote: “For everybody that’s been asking, I can let you know that this series, I sadly won’t be partnered with a celebrity for the main series of Strictly.

“However, I will still be heavily involved in all of the group numbers and all things Strictly!”

He added he hoped to be returning next year in the hopes of lifting the Glitter Ball trophy.

He said: “I’m excited to see this year’s celebs and my fellow professionals dance for the Glitter Ball and I hope to be back fighting for it next year.

“As always, it’s gonna be a GREAT series.”(sic)

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One tonight at 6.40pm
