Great British Bake Off winner Rahul has an encouraging message for the youngest Bake Off contestants yet.

Rahul Mandal, who was crowned the winner of the ninth series, gave the new ‘baker’s dozen’ a few reassuring words before the start of the new season.

The 32-year-old tweeted: ‘Such a wonderful baker’s dozen! Can’t wait to see their creations in (the) tent.

‘A very warm welcome to you all. (Dear bakers, the secret is out now… and your journey starts now! Good luck).’

More than half of the line-up includes people in their 20s, while the oldest contestant is 56 and many believe it’s due to the positive effect the series has on young viewers.

Rahul was only among a large list of former contestants welcoming the bakers into this year’s tent ahead of their debut.

Kim-Joy Hewlett, who was runner up in the close finale, tweeted: ‘OMG!!! Welcome to the Bake Off family everybody – and I can’t wait to watch you, root for you and feel the emotional rollercoaster through you all over again!!

‘Congrats for getting on, you’ve all done amazing already! (sic)’

Ruby Bhogal was named joint runner-up alongside Kim-Joy last year and had kept the same excitement as her for this year’s youthful team.

She said: ‘Realised I’ve dropped off the face of Twitter earth and not tweeted in a lifetime but this felt a worthy cause for a comeback because YOU GUYS, LOOK!!

‘So bloody eggscited for next week – welcome to the family new bakers.’

This year’s line-up includes people from every career imaginable, including an HGV driver, a veterinary surgeon, a part-time waiter, and a student.

Seventh series winner Candice Brown was quick to share an image of the new contestants to Twitter, writing: ‘Hi team!!!!!! Welcome to the bake off familyyyyyyyyyyy.’

While the former contestants seemed over the moon for the upcoming series, scandal king Paul Hollywood share an image of the competitors and kept his message short and formal.

He wrote: Morning X, Meet the cast of Bake Off 2019… all starts next Tuesday’.

The judges and presenters remain the same, with Sandi Toksvig and comedian Noel Fielding back for another year of innuendos and puns.

Paul and Prue Leith will be on hand to harshly judge the baker’s creations throughout the series.

The new series of The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 on 27 August at 8 pm.
