Gavin and Stacey’s Mathew Horne reveals his dislike of Piers Morgan was behind James Corden ‘feud’

GAVIN & Stacey star Mathew Horne has revealed the truth behind his rumoured feud with co-star James Corden ahead of the show’s one-off Christmas special – and it all centres around Piers Morgan.

Mathew, 41, said reports of his rift with James first started when he failed to appear in his co-star’s episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories back in 2011.

The episode saw every Gavin & Stacey cast member pay tribute to James except Mathew, and at the time, Piers explained to James that his co-star had refused to take part.

But Mathew insists that wasn’t the case.

“I didn’t go on that show because I was filming out of London, and they could only film my interview on one day, and I couldn’t do it,” he told The Times.

“The other reason is that I dislike Piers Morgan and everything he stands for.

“With hindsight, perhaps I should have put my feelings about Morgan and ethics aside, and supported my friend to whom I am greatly indebted and love very much,” he said.

For his part, James, 41, told Piers the pair hadn’t fallen out – but he did hint they’d drifted apart.

He admitted the pair didn’t speak for a few months to work on their solo careers.

“We both had to find and establish ourselves outside the two of us,” he said.

While James went on to reinvent himself as a late night talk show host and actor in the US, Mathew based himself in the UK and appeared in a number of local productions.

Having discussed rumours of a fall out ever since, Mathew can only continue to insist the alleged feud is “made up”.

“It’s a wonderfully cynical narrative to sell. But it’s a lie. I can only be as transparent as that. They made it up and they can continue to spin it as long as they want, but I have nothing but love and support for James, and gratitude for what he’s done for my career,” he added.
