Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has promised something special is on its way as the show returns for a Christmas special this year.
Joanna, who leads the family sitcom alongside Mat Horne as the Gavin to her Stacey, joined the rest of the cast for the first days of rehearsals this week- and according to her, things got emotional.
‘I hadn’t seen so many of the cast for so many years,’ she told Daily Star.
‘I kept touching everybody’s face and saying, “Oh my goodness, it’s you – I’ve missed you so much”.’
For the upcoming hour-long special, Joanna promises a sense of nostalgia, though with a decade off-screen, we’re there’s a lot we need to be caught up with.
‘We sat down to read the script and it was like we’d never been away. We all came together like a big family. It was really lovely. We had a right laugh,’ she added.
Filming for the new episode will start in just a few weeks’ time, with co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, who plays Smithy and Nessa on the series, admitting they were wracked with nerves at the upcoming return.
James shared a photo of the gang back together for their first read-through for the show, confirming the return of Stacey’s brother, Jason, in the process.
‘The script is brilliant. It’s really good,’ she said. ‘It made me cry, it made me laugh and it made me think, “I just want to spend Christmas with this family”.’
Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special airs Christmas Day on BBC One.
