Gavin And Stacey planned to expose fishing trip mystery for good – but axed pivotal scene

Exactly what went down on the fishing trip has remained the most frustrating unanswered question of Gavin And Stacey since it was first mentioned in series one.

And to add insult to injury, James Corden and Ruth Jones had plans to reveal what happened between Bryn and his nephew Jason, but scrapped the scene before season two aired.

Lisa Edwards – who owned the house belonging to Bryn in the comedy – revealed that a script for an axed episode was left at her home in Barry, and had plans to expose the event in question.

‘We have a script for an episode which was never aired,’ Lisa said.

She continued to Wales Online: ‘It was supposed to be Uncle Bryn and his nephew watching this VHS.

‘They both watch it together to see what happened on the fishing trip. But they decided to not show the episode.’

The hotly-anticipated Christmas special episode, which smashed records with biggest ratings since 2008, came close to giving us the answers we so desperately need.

But just as Bryn and Jason were going to come clean about the whole fishing trip mystery, Stacey’s children came running into the house.

It truly was a painstaking moment.

While we’re still no closer to finding out what happened, there are no shortage of online theories kicking about, from the suggestion that Jason and Bryn had some sort of sexual contact in order to keep warm, through to the possibility they might have fallen into the river and had to prevent hypothermia.

Here’s hoping that Gavin And Stacey bags another series and we finally get some closure, because we’re getting pretty desperate now.

The Gavin And Stacey Christmas Special is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
