Gary Rhodes’ son got emotional when recalling the time he worked alongside his dad.

In the weeks running up to the celebrity chef’s death, the father-of-two was filming for a show where he hoped to make his television comeback.

And while exploring Dubai’s cuisine, he called on Sam to help out with the programme’s production.

In the new heartbreaking ITV documentary, titled Gary Rhodes: The First Rock Star Chef, the proud son spoke about his time behind the camera.

‘It was really big for him,’ Sam confessed while sat alongside his brother, George.

‘[Gary] said you me, “I can’t believe I’m going to be back on TV.” He thought it was really strange that after all this time people still wanted to know what he was up to.’

On being part of the camera crew, Sam said: ‘It was an honour for me to be part of the crew and working on a new project with him it was really quite magical.’

His voice then cracked, as he continued: ‘It was an honour, an absolute honour to work with dad on that.’

The hour-long show saw the boys join the likes of Ainsley Harriott and Gordon Ramsay who paid tribute to their fellow chef.

As it aired, Gary’s brother Chris took to Twitter where he told his followers how he found it hard to tune in.

‘I’m struggling with this if I am honest – I loved my brother so much #garyrhodes,’ the mourning sibling wrote.

Garry passed away in November last year, aged just 59, when he suddenly collapsed at his hotel following a meal with his wife, Jennie.

At the time, his family released a statement, reading: ‘In order to end painful speculation surrounding the sudden passing of our beloved Gary Rhodes OBE, the Rhodes family can confirm that after a successful day shooting with Rock Oyster Media for ITV here in Dubai, Gary returned home in a very happy mood for a peaceful evening with his wife Jennie.

‘After dinner, Gary, unfortunately, collapsed in their residence and was rushed to hospital but unfortunately passed away due to subdural hematoma.

‘At this time, there are no other details and the family would again request privacy around this very tragic loss and again, thank friends and family for their ongoing support at this time.’

Gary Rhodes: The First Rock Star Chef will be available to watch on ITV Hub.
