Gary Neville slams Ed Woodward and Man Utd culture in latest attack

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been vocal in his criticism of the club during their recent struggles.

He has now launched a fresh attack on the hierarchy at the club – and called for Ed Woodward to be replaced as executive vice-chairman.

The Red Devils has failed to meet on-field expectations during Woodward’s seven-year stint in charge of football operations.

Neville believes his track record should be enough to see him replaced as the Old Trafford club look to restore their place amongst Europe’s top perfoming clubs.

“Ed Woodward’s had seven years now at this. Seven years. I think he’s had his chance personally,” Neville said on Monday Night Football.

Gary Neville says Ed Woodward has “had his chance” at Man Utd

“I think he’s had his chance at running the football side of the club.

“No problem with keeping him at the club on the business side of things. The revenues, the operating profit, I’d imagine are pleasing the Glazer family enormously.

“That’s fine, but he’s had his chance at running the football side of the club.

“So now you have to think, right, that two person structure has not worked for the first three of four years. It’s now a situation whereby they’ve got to bring a different structure in.

“It’s a big football, it’s a monster of the football club, and they need to bring in the best in class.”

Neville launched a furious attack on the culture at Man Utd behind the scenes

Neville also blasted the culture at the club and questioned the structure behind the scenes, particularly regarding transfers.

“They’ve appointed the best in class coaches that have failed at Manchester United . You start to question – is it just the coach?

“There is a cultural problem at the football club. There is a cultural problem, it’s deep. The decisions are bad, the choices are poor.

“Who is signing the players this summer? Every other football club in this country I could tell you who is in charge of signings. I haven’t got a clue at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing the task of leading United back into the top four

“They’ve still got Sir Alex’s chief scout, they’ve still got Louis Van Gaal’s scout there, they’ve still got David Moyes’ chief football operator there.

“They’ve got four or five people there – I think there’s another guy there who has been appointed by the CEO.

“You’ve got four or five people in charge of recruitment, you’ve got the head coach who’ll have an opinion on recruitment, the CEO will have an opinion, who is in charge? Who has the final say?

“Jose Mourinho, last summer, was told his signings that he wanted were not right. Who is telling Jose Mourinho that his signings are not right at the football club? Who is qualified?”

New permanent boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now preparing for a huge summer rebuild as the club eye a return to the Premier League top four next season.
