Gary Lineker’s dog Snoop has passed away.

The 58-year-old made the announcement on Twitter where he delivered the sad news to his 7.42million followers.

Sharing a picture of the pup looking pretty proud of himself, as he sat in front of a twig, the star revealed his heartbreak over losing his ‘beloved’ pet.

The former footballer said: ‘Profoundly saddened to tell you that my beloved dog, Snoop, passed away last night. He was my friend, my companion, my boy.

‘Whether I left the house for 2 weeks, 2 days or 2 minutes he would greet me with equal measure of enthusiasm and love.’

Closing off his tweet, the sportsman added: ‘I’ll miss him greatly. RIP Snoop.’

Fans were quick to comment on the snap where they sent their well wishes to the much-loved sportsman.

‘That’s so sad. Losing a dog, or any other animal that’s been with you for so long, can be really heartbreaking. Take care Gary,’ one wrote while another added: ‘Sorry to hear, Gary. It’s never easy.’

Someone else said: ‘Sorry to here mate. They are irreplaceable. The most loyal companions you’ll ever find.’

Gary shared the Golden Labrador with his ex-wife Danielle Bux, who previously confessed that the pup helped them to bond.

Talking to the Pets Pyjamas blog, the 40-year-old said: ‘We love him so much as he is our baby in the family. Being a step family, he has helped us all bond.

‘He is so instinctive; he just knows when you’re feeling poorly or having a bad day and is always around for a cuddle. He has total unconditional love for us all, as we do for him.’

She added: ‘We take [Snoop] out twice a day. He helps me with my cardio as we both enjoy long walks.

‘When we are out he loves chasing birds and squirrels but his favourite thing is playing with the football, of course!’

The pair brought Gary’s sons George, Tobias, Lucas and Angus, and Danielle’s daughter Emily together, after tying the knot in 2009.

However, the duo decided to call it quits on their relationship back in 2016, seeing them go their separate ways.
