Garth Brooks will receive 'Icon' award at Billboard Music Awards

Millions of country music fans already consider him one, but Billboard’s making it official: Garth Brooks is an “Icon.”

The country giant will receive the “Icon Award” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, taking place April 29 in Las Vegas. He’ll perform on the live broadcast, airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

Brooks is the first country artist to be named an “Icon” at the ceremony. Previous recipients of the annual honor include Cher, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey.

He is also the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year, winning the award at last November’s CMA Awards for a record-setting seventh time.

In May, he’ll play his latest stadium concerts at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina (May 2)  and Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio (May 16).

In other brand-new Billboard Music Awards news, Kelly Clarkson is returning to host the show for the third year in a row.
