Gareth Gates says he ‘felt terrible’ for revealing fiancee Faye Brookes’ Corrie plot

GARETH Gates has admitted that he “felt terrible” for revealing that Rana was going to be killed off in the Coronation Street factory disaster.

Fans of the ITV soap were left fuming when the 34-year-old star ruined the episode’s ending on his social media page a full 10 minutes before the heartbreaking scenes aired.

Speaking to OK! magazine about the unfortunate blunder, Gareth explained: “It was a complete accident.

“We were out having some drinks when it aired and I lost track of time and thought it had already played out on screen.

“I felt terrible!”

His fiancee, Faye Brookes, also jumped to Gareth’s defence – insisting that it was an innocent mistake and he meant well.

She also claimed that ITV weren’t angry about the spoiler and that viewers already knew that Rana was going to die.

The 31-year-old actress added to the publication: “It was an innocent mistake and he felt really bad. I know fans were upset but he was proud of me and wanted to share that with his followers.

“Most viewers knew Rana was going to die so he didn’t really give away the ending.

“I wasn’t angry with him and nor were ITV.”

Faye plays Rana’s girlfriend Kate Connor in the soap and Gareth made the mistake earlier this month when he heaped praised on his fiancee’s emotional performance.

He tweeted: “So proud of my lady @faye_brookes in @coronationstreet – such amazing TRUE acting. Sad to lose the beautiful and incredibly talented @bhavnalimbachia.”

The star sent the message at 8.42pm during the ad break – with Rana’s death airing shortly before 9pm.

Furious fans rushed to criticise Gareth for ruining the end of the dramatic episode for them, with one pointing out: “Oh god, you’ve just given it away.”

Another complained: “Noooooo haven’t watched it yet.”

Another raged: “You have just ruined it!!!”

Rana – who is played by actress Bhavna Limbachia – was crushed in the tragic factory collapse on her wedding day – leaving fiancee Kate brokenhearted.
