Games with Gold August 2019: Great Xbox Live news ahead of Xbox One free games reveal

The official Games with Gold August 2019 reveal will be made before the end of July.

The new free Xbox One and 360 games you’ll be able to download and play next month haven’t been revealed yet but could be announced anytime, starting on Monday.

Unlike PlayStation, Microsoft doesn’t have a typical day in the month where their next selection of free games are announced.

But so far in 2019, Xbox has been sharing Games with Gold news closer to the end of the month, and there is no reason to believe this will change anytime soon.

So we would predict that Microsoft will make their announcement during the last week of July 2019.

No leaks have appeared online to spoil the surprise yet but fans are always eager to find out what new Xbox Live Gold titles are set to be offered.

There’s been a bit of a dearth of AAA titles of late, with the tech giant choosing to offer smaller, party games instead.

The current lineup includes Inside and Big Crown: Showdown, an indie action platformer, which sees friends become foes as they compete for the crown in 4-player local and online multiplayer combat.

Big Crown: Showdown is “set over 3 wacky worlds full of medieval shenanigans,” the official game description reads.

“Avoid perilous hazards and engage in frantic fights as you attempt to knock your opponents off 15 crazy courses in the ultimate royal battle.

“It’s not all about combat in Big Crown Showdown. The game blends chaotic combat with sections of tricky platforming, challenging players to move fast and react quickly. Every track has a number of deadly obstacles for players to avoid.”

It follows some great Xbox Live Gold news for fans looking to try out a new free game before the big launch.

Fishing Planet, the free-to-play title on Xbox One, has been given a big update this week.

Those who download it at no extra charge can now play it on both console and PC.

It was confirmed this week that the first free-to-play fishing simulator, is now out on Xbox One and Windows 10 as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

“It has already been five years as our team is on the quest of bringing true sportfishing to the virtual realm with its thrilling fun and harmony, and we’re proud to bring our game to Xbox One and Windows 10,” Olga Grynko, Co-Producer at Fishing Planet reveals.

“As we developed Fishing Planet we meticulously recreated numerous nature environments and tuned physical behaviour of tackle to model the real-life situations with impeccable detail.

“During the development process, we used photo scanning (photogrammetry) – a technique used to capture real-life objects with all possible details.”

And that’s not all that is going on this weekend, with Microsoft also confirming that Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, is available to play for free today.

Xbox Live Gold members can download and play Borderlands: GOTY until 8am on Monday, July 22.
