Games Inbox: The Last Of Us Part II release date, Fable IV rumours, and waiting for Dauntless

RE: Taylor’s question on Kojima’s ‘genius’. I think he does have a certain level of auteur level quality in his direction, etc. but who’s to say how much influence he has on each part of the gameplay mechanics when it comes down to the nitty gritty? Case in point, I started playing Metal Gear Survive this weekend, seeing it is now on Game Pass, and it’s really actually not too bad.

I loved the stealth in Metal Gear Solid V, and this gives me that same feeling, with some other things bolted onto it. How much of the deeper technical side was from Kojima, and how much was from the Konami workers? I’ll say one thing, the long opening cinematics of Survive were beautifully directed and constructed, which alone was weird as the credits were showing through this, because Kojima’s name was of course nowhere to be seen.

It’s yet to be seen how much the survival mechanics annoy/detract from the stealth part of Metal Gear, and sure it could well have done to not have Metal Gear tied to it at all, but to get more of those sweet, sweet Metal Gear Solid V mechanics, I’m willing to give it a few more hours. Never would have bought it myself in a million years though.

GC: It is an odd game. Half of it is, as you say, surprisingly enjoyable but the other half, particularly the structure and pacing, is awful.
