Games Inbox: The Last Of Us Part II hate, Modern Warfare Survival mode, and the end of Fortnite

I am feeling quite pleased with myself for finishing a game for the first time in years. I have the attention span of a five-year-old these days with gaming, unless something really grabs me. Well, this game certainly did that, even if the final act dropped in quality a tad.

What game am I referring to? Divinity: Original Sin II of course.

Therefore, not only did I complete a game for the first time in years, I managed to stay committed for what must have been 50+ hours and I cannot praise the game enough. For anyone that despises turn-based battles I would highly suggest giving it a go, it could change your opinion. I remember a scuffle with a certain doctor in the final act that had me at it for at least an hour (some retries), the battle was incredibly tense, and I had to seriously plan my moves in advance.

I had tried the original and although I enjoyed the game it did not really click with me to keep at it. Now I am seriously considering double-dipping to pick this up again.

But with Original Sin II, I was struggling to put it down (even with limited time) and for the first time in years, I was in the mind set of ‘one last go’, leading to some late nights whilst promising myself I would stop after the next battle.

Everything about the game is fantastic, from the excellent skills, top-notch voice-acting, decent plot, and genuinely deep characters. There are some genuinely funny and emotional moments within the game, with some decisions leading to permadeath and the removal of that character from your party. As some of these people have been accompanying you for tens of hours, it can be a real gut punch.

I know GC gave the game 10/10 and I have to agree. It’s rare for me to be absorbed into a game like this and although the last act does drop in quality a little, that bar is set so high from the beginning, that it is still head and shoulders above most other games.
