Micro excitement
One of my favourite handheld consoles ever is the Game Boy Micro, so although it may not be the main announcement from Sega regarding their 60th birthday, to me at least the Game Gear Micro is the most exciting.
I know it would be impractical to make them able to play real Game Gear carts, due to their large size compared to the smaller Game Boy Advance games but this is the next best thing.
Can’t wait to get my hands on the whole set. I remember how cool it was getting my original Game Gear with the TV adaptor to turn it into a portable television (not so cool trying to get any channel to tune in at good enough quality to watch it though).

Same old game
Oh my god! Where do I start on this one? The most ludicrous idea in history. A gaming system that only ants can play? Hardly the game changer I was expecting from Sega. They really have lost the plot with this one.
I was a least expecting something in line with the Sega Mega Drive Mini but instead we get a keychain item from a gift shop? They have really lost the plot and clearly don’t understand their fanbase.

Tiny potential
Is this Sega’s biggest ever missed opportunity? Just seeing how tiny and restricted that Game Gear Micro is makes me imagine how they could have made so much more of it, from the size to the games to the features.
And then you think about how much people appreciate the tactile nature of retro hardware and the possibilities of a Switch-sized Saturn/Dreamcast mini, and how that’s not this….
I mean, FOUR games?! Why not just put 50 on there? The Master System had so many gems that are still playable today. I despair.

GTA USA
If Rockstar are really planning to have GTA 6 continue alongside GTA 5, what do you think the chances are of the inevitable next gen editions of GTA 5/Online being designed to accommodate a whole new city/region that will house the new GTA 6 story? Since I’m sure I heard a statement to the effect that GTA 6 might be smaller in scale to start with, I’m imagining such a story might evolve episodically, ultimately building towards a modern day Vice or Liberty City that will have a similar scope to Los Santos, and that, in online mode at least, you can then travel between the two regions at will.
All the recent talk of the new consoles and instant access SSD technology certainly suggests they’d be easily able to implement a ‘go to the airport and fast travel’ mechanic or even go full on ‘charter and fly your own plane there in real-time’, or even just, you know… drive?
Admittedly I’ve never actually taken the dive into GTA Online, so I don’t know how that might work on a practical level, but expanding your criminal enterprise across different cities or even a whole country sounds like precisely the kind of ambitious undertaking Rockstar might do.
Given how jaw-dropping a technical achievement GTA 5 was on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 generation and how well it translated to the current generation, I’m eager to see how far Rockstar can take the PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X. One day I can imagine it just being GTA USA.

GC: Continuing alongside implies to us that GTA 5 will just carry on getting the same stream of small updates it does at the moment. What you’re describing sounds more like some sort of GTA 5.5 situation.
Little suggestions
I would quite like some recommendations for my little Switch. I have Zelda, Smash Bros. and Super Mario Odyssey already. I don’t have Mario Kart yet as it is more of a multiplayer concern. I recently got a dear friend Octopath Traveller for her birthday, which I aim to, err, borrow at some point.
I also want Bayonetta 1 and 2. I see that the first can be offered as a download if I get Cereza’s second outing? No? There’s Pokémon and Astral Chain as well, too. Anything else I’m forgetting? Bear in mind I’m more of a solo guy…

GC: In terms of Nintendo first party games the obvious ones are Luigi’s Mansion 3, Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Maker 2, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Xenoblade Chronicles, and, while we weren’t big fans, Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Plus, the not technically first party Cadence Of Hyrule and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.
Lost boss
I am quite disappointed with how the remake of Resident Evil 3 has turned out, especially considering how the original was my favourite in the series.
They have cut out a lot content from the original including the gravedigger boss. I mean, how can Capcom be so stupid to cut out one of the iconic bosses from the original?
For me, what could have been a brilliant reimagining, is what apparently seems to be a rushed project in which they took advantage of the hype the Resident Evil 2 remake generated.
Rather than the mediocre multiplayer add-on they should have spent more time expanding on the main story with many more new areas, new bosses, etc.

As somebody who is always interested in collecting achievements in my games, if I can, I was wondering…. what’s your Gamerscore?
I know you probably don’t go actively seeking achievements but I’m guessing with how many games you play it must be pretty high anyway.

Sense addiction
I’ve been playing The Witcher 3 on Switch for the last few months – the portability is a Zodsend and would have vastly reduced the time it took me to complete the Mass Effect trilogy, had the Xbox 360 had the same feature. But I digress…
My reason for writing is that, as I explore the game world, I find myself spending an awful lot of time using witcher senses, to the point where I’ll walk around for ages using them just in case I miss something interesting. A similar thing happened with Batman’s detective vision in the Arkham games. I start out okay but at some point in the game I end up overusing these tools and then can’t seem to stop in case some secret passes me by! Is this just me?
Now, I admit I have missed a lot of the big hitters in the last few years so gameplay may already have moved on but I feel like the witcher senses/detective vision tool could be easily improved by allowing only finite use before needing recharge time. Make me go cold turkey then I could get back to experiencing the games.

Free drift
I just wanted to write in to pass this beta code for Kart Racing Drift onto one of the readers if anyone is interested in trying it out. It looks decent.
I am probably in the minority but seeing this reminds me of ModNation Racers and I’d really like Sony to make another one. I enjoyed the original quite a bit. This code is for the Nexon Launcher on PC, which means nothing to me but if you know what that means have at it.

A very Fortnite birthday
We made our friend Lois her very own Fortnite island for her 17th birthday. We knew she wouldn’t be able to have a normal birthday and hang out with her friends because we are in lockdown, so we threw a virtual party on Fortnite! There’s music, cake, presents, giant llamas and chests and so much more! We spent weeks making it on Fortnite Creative as a surprise for Lois and she loved it.
We’ve improved and published Birthday Island for others to enjoy virtual birthday parties on Fortnite as I looked beforehand, hoping there was one already so that I didn’t have to make one myself! But I couldn’t find any suitable in my search. Creative code: 0257-7155-4431
Side note: we are four women of separate ages (ranging from 17 to 29) and we play Fortnite together most days. I don’t see women and Fortnite portrayed much in the media at all, which is a huge shame. I know loads of female friends who play Fortnite and other games, but it is still so dominated by men.
Another side note: this is Fortnite Creative, which doesn’t go out of date like videos on the Battle Royale game mode which are almost out of date after just one week, and very out of date once the new season rolls around.
