Games Inbox: Bully 2 rumours, Freedom Fighters 2 hopes, and GTA Online free-to-play

Regarding the DLC characters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I think it’s fair to say it’s mainly classic, long-running Nintendo characters who take precedence in these games.

Fair enough that characters like Joker and Bayonetta are recent additions linked to PlayStation, plus Cloud from Final Fantasy, but the Final Fantasy games are hugely well-known games out for three decades.

We’re starting to see a comeback from long retired Banjo and Kazooie, who went to Xbox some time ago but have always been associated with Donkey Kong’s side of the universe. Dragon Quest has been around since the 80s so has cemented a fan following.

Not so sure about Crash Bandicoot (seems to have too much of a similar role to Banjo, maybe). Sypro could well be possible, being a unique character, but may not have so much of a fan following. The last characters could be related to the Mario, Zelda, or Metroid games. Seeing as the DLCs will last until February 2020 there could well be potential for a generation eight pokémon to be squeezed in at the last second…

GC: Well, as you say, Joker and Persona have almost no connection to any Nintendo console, beyond an obscure sub-franchise on the 3DS. Cloud appeared in the game before Final Fantasy VII was on the Switch, and so too will the hero from Dragon Quest XI. At least Crash and Spyro have actually been on Nintendo formats before (not that we necessarily think they’re likely choices).
