Games Inbox: Black Mirror video game, PS5 backwards compatibility, and Wreckfest release date

That was a great weekend feature from Onibee about the future of Nintendo.

Onibee is totally on the button with saying they are totally happy with playing games with PlayStation 4 graphics. I’m in the same boat and I think to myself, ‘What is wrong with that?’.

Unfortunately, consumers (not all of us, but the majority) have always lived in times where raw power rules over everything. We’ve seen it with the current generation through TV adverts. The PS4 and Xbox One have both claimed to be the world’s most powerful console… who cares?

You are still going to get the same copy of FIFA and Call Of Duty as the next guy irrespective of the power under the hood, because I can’t imagine development studios working extra hard because you’ve bought a more powerful console.

Nintendo however are another enigma. They have been around long before Sony and Microsoft entered the gaming market. That’s not me trolling the other two, it’s simply me stating a fact that they’ve always had their own mindset at the forefront. They still adopt the same attitude today.

Power is not everything and I do wonder what will happen when we peak, which won’t be long.

I speak to a lot of gamers and when I mention a game they might like I normally get the response, ‘That game is old now’. Now, I wouldn’t necessarily consider that the Beauty and the Beast live action movie to be ‘old’ but gamers looking at a game of similar age do.

Which says a lot about the target market for gaming producers. I’m still going through PlayStation 2 games that I always wanted to play and guess what? I’m having an absolute blast, regardless of being told recently that I’m, ‘Not a proper gamer’ by a colleague.

Anyway, play games and above all have fun guys regardless of the power in the console.

Good games never get old.

GC: Raw power has never had a major influence on console sales. More often it’s the least powerful console that succeeds, rather than the most powerful.
