Game of Thrones season 8: Tyrion's seat on the Iron Throne CONFIRMED in new teaser clip?

Tyrion Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage) has evolved tremendously since the inception of Game of Thrones, climbing the ranks to become the hand of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

But the brother of Jaimie (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) could surpass his Queen if the newly released teaser clip is anything to go by.

HBO premiered the new footage earlier this week and though it was mostly made up of recycled clips from previews seen before it did include some new scenes.

Most notably was the opening sequence which saw Tyrion telling the people of Winterfell, “We must fight together now, or we’ll die.”

As he spoke to the crowd both Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) could be seen seated at the head of the table in the Great Hall.

There appeared to be a space between the two women, perhaps where Tyrion sat before he addressed the audience to encourage them to go to battle.

Is this evidence he will take the Iron Throne? Or, was he merely carrying out his duties as the hand of the Mother of Dragons?

He was previously tipped to claim the ceremonial chair when HBO released a series of spoiler images ahead of the series premiere earlier this year.

One of the photos captured Tyrion sitting on the coveted throne, dressed in fine clothing, but still sporting his broach given to him by the Breaker of Chains.

A fierce expression swept his face and he rested both arms on the hands of the chair as he stared down the camera lenses.

The image was captioned: “Never forget who you are. The rest of the world will not.”

Naturally, fans of the character were quick to suggest he would take the Iron Throne and rule King’s Landing.

On Twitter, one person wrote: “Start calling him the King already,” as another simply said: “He deserves it.”

A second commented: “My mans. The only one who deserves the Iron Throne,” while a third declared: “The Iron Throne looks good on him.”

Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion, once hinted his on-screen persona would betray Jon Snow (Kit Harington) out of jealousy for his romance with Daenerys.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Peter confirmed Tyrion “loves” Daenerys and is definitely a little jealous of Jon’s new relationship with her.

On their blossoming romance, he said: “It’s complicated. A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal.

“Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her – or thinks he does. She’s awe-inspiring.

“He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there.”

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14 on HBO and Sky Atlantic and on NOW TV on April 15.
