Where was Game of Thrones Season 8 filmed?

Most of the action in Game of Thrones Season 8 is filmed in Northern Ireland, in the purpose-built Winterfell set in Moneyglass, north-west of Belfast.

It is in this iconic location the massive fight between the people of Westeros and the White Walkers will take place.

Some filming also took place in Tollymore Forest Park in County Down.

Fans spotted Stark family actors filming Direwolf scenes for the final season.

Game of Thrones fans may remember this location as the place where the Starks discover the dire wolves.

It is also where the White Walkers began their march into the realm of men.

Fans may also remember it as where Ramsay, “the b*****d of Bolton” hunted Theon.

Game of Thrones has also, since it began in 2011, used Spain as a backdrop in many intense scenes.

You may recognise some locations such as the city of Seville, which is the Hispanic land of Dorne.

In the previous season the peninsula of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe was used as the location of Dragonstone, home to Daenerys.

The Dragonpit of King’s Landing will also likely make an appearance this season, which is filmed north of Seville in the Italica Amphitheatre of Santiponce.

Dubrovnik and Šibenik in Croatia are famously used for exterior shots of King’s Landing and Braavos.

Trsteno in Croatia is also recognisable as the gardens in King’s Landing.

Anything filmed “beyond the wall” is filmed in the dramatic landscapes of Iceland.

Game of Thrones has filmed all across the country, from the cave in Grjótagjá where Jon Snow and Ygritte shared a night of passion.

In was in Kirkjufell in the icy country where the battle scenes with dragons were filmed in the last season.

It’s uncertain whether or not Season 8 will venture beyond the wall, but if it does we could see the Svínafellsjökull glacier, and the black sand beach at Reynisfjara.
