Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3: 'Don't be dead!' Fans DEVASTATED over this death

Game of Thrones season eight is the final season of the show and tonight saw the third episode air on HBO, and it was a big one.

Tonight’s episode was the much-anticipated Battle of Winterfell, and there were quite a few deaths, as expected.

However, there was one particular dead which seemed to shock the fans more than the other, and that was the implied death of Jon Snow’s (played by Kit Harrington) dire wold, Ghost.

Ghost was with the soldiers at the beginning of the episode and wasn’t seen again, and fans were worried that the direwolf was killed in the battle.

Many of these fans took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the direwolf, who’s one of the last of the Stark’s six pups.

One fan tweeted: “MEU GHOST NAOOOOOOO.”

Another added: “Oh man please tell me the wolf survived.”

A third wrote: “GHOST!”

One viewer commented: “Noooooo ghost don’t be dead.”

“But but but Ghost!!!” tweeted another fan.

If Ghost did indeed die in t his episode, that only leaves one direwolf left: Nymeria.

Nymeria was Arya Stark’s (Maisie Williams) wolf, and she ended up chasing her away after she attacked Prince Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson).

The direwolf is now leading a wolf pack in the Riverlands, being the first direwolf seen that far south (other than Robb Stark’s (Richard Madden) Grey Wind) in many centuries.

That said, Ghost’s fate was left somewhat ambiguous in this episode. However, it doesn’t look good for Jon’s canine friend.

The wolf was seen at the very beginning of the episode and didn’t reappear, which sees to suggest that he was killed.

However, it’s been rumoured that the direwolves will be important in the show further down the line, so that could give fans some hope for Ghost.

Meanwhile, it’s been suggested that Jon Snow’s death may have been sealed by Jaime Lannister back when the Kingslayer first visited the North in season one.

In episode two of season one, Jaime can be heard asking Jon: “A sword for the wall?”

“I already have one,” Jon replies as he stands by the blacksmith working on a sword for his sister Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).

Jaime responded: “Good man, have you swung it yet?”

“Of course I have,” Jon hit back defensively.

But Jaime laughed: “At someone I mean… strange thing the first time you cut a man, you realise were nothing but sacks of meat, blood and bone to keep it all standing.”

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
