Game Of Thrones: Maisie Williams wore a ‘strap to reverse puberty’ during early days of Arya Stark

Maisie Williams has revealed that she had to wear a “strap” to “reverse puberty” while her character Arya Stark was pretending to be a boy. 

The actress, who turned 22 on Monday, admitted that she was given a “strap” to wear for a few seasons of the HBO hit to make her appear more male, something Arry did to stay safe in Westeros.

“There was a few seasons in the middle where I had to wear, like, a strap just to reverse puberty for the first few years while Arya was pretending to be a boy,” Williams told 60 Minutes.

“It got to the point where the strap was no longer working. So, I was about 15, right, and he gave me, like, this little, chubby belly.

“I was about 15 years old. Like, I kinda just want a boyfriend, honestly. I don’t wanna wear this.”

Williams was thrust into the spotlight on the popular fantasy show, being a key part of show since its inception in 2009.

But the actress recently confessed that she is ready to take a break from acting and even “subconsciously” came up with a plan to stop any work offers using a bold hairstyle.

“I guess, subconsciously, I dyed it because I didn’t want to work,” Williams told Rolling Stone. “It’s a pretty good way of stopping that. And it just feels so good, so me.

She added: “I’ve battled my whole adolescence with trying to put a stamp on my appearance, but also be a blank canvas as an actor.”

Williams also hinted that she’s looking forward to embracing the “freedom” that will come with no longer appearing in Game of Thrones.

“What’s hit me the most about the show ending isn’t the show ending,” Williams said. “It’s like, I’m free. I can do anything now.”
