Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington ‘terrified’ of Marvel fandom ahead of The Eternals role

Kit Harington is no stranger to being adorned by mass fan groups thanks to Game of Thrones, but he admits to being ‘terrified’ of the Marvel fandom ahead of his role in the upcoming superhero movie The Eternals.

The 32-year-old spent eight years playing Jon Snow in the HBO fantasy series and is now preparing to take on the role of Dane Whitman in The Eternals, which also stars Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and coincidentally, Kit’s former GoT co-star Richard Madden.

But it seems even the hysteria surrounding Game of Thrones has only prepared Kit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom so far.

Speaking at Chicago Comic Con this week, Kit said: ‘A lot of people who go into the MCU, they haven’t had experience of, maybe, a franchise that big.

‘I’ve lived with Thrones for 10 years, I’ve known a big franchise and something that’s created a world and it has a huge fan base. So for both reasons, I’m excited and terrified.’

Oh you’re in for quite a ride, Kit.

The actor went on to explain that he’s tried to find roles outside of the fantasy genre after exhausting himself with Game of Thrones.

However his plan hasn’t worked very well so far as his character in The Eternals is also known as Black Knight and wields a sword – much like his old friend and Night’s Watch leader Jon.

‘I’m going on to play a superhero, which is cool. I don’t know what I can say about it, I’m scared to sort of even mention it,’ Kit explained.

‘I’m trying to choose things as far away from Jon Snow as possible, but I’m playing a superhero and he’s got a sword.

‘It’s a whole new chapter and a whole new character to start thinking about. Without saying too much at all, on the surface, [Black Knight] can look like Jon Snow in the comics but there is actually a lot to be done that is different.’

Marvel fans are excited for The Eternals, which is set millions of years before the events of the Avengers gang and will follow a set of superheroes on their battle against the villainous group The Deviants.

The Eternals is set for release on 6 November 2020.
