Game of Thrones: Fans love Varys star Conleth's death reaction more than Kit Harington's


Varys was killed in the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones season eight after betraying Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke).

He had seen her Mad Queen potential starting to appear and warned others including Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) about the dangers of supporting her.

Finding out, Daenerys got her dragons to burn him alive in heartbreaking scenes for fans.

It also appears Conleth was devastated or angered by his death in a recent documentary aired on HBO on Sunday.

In the scenes, the cast sit through a read-through of the episode and he cannot hide his feelings when Emilia reads out Daenerys’s line to have him killed.

Finding out his death for the first time, he closes his script and pushes it away from him almost in disgust at what he has just read.

Cersei Lannister star Lena Headey holds his hand to comfort him and ironically, Daenerys star Emilia gives him a sympathetic smile.

Fans have taken to Twitter to respond to his reaction and many are finding it totally relatable.

One fan said: “The look of disgust from Conleth Hill, with Emilia Clarke looking on after Varys became dumb and suddenly careless. Lena Headey with that awkward smile as well, these reactions are everything.”

Another said: “Good Morning, here’s Conleth Hill’s relatable reaction to the season eight script if your feeling down.”

A third fan replied: “Conleth hill’s reactions at the reading table was a whole mood in real life and while watching season eight.”

Another added: “In my opinion Conleth Hill’s reaction to the death of Varys during the reading is more apt than that of Kit Harington’s… IT DESERVES MORE RECOGNITION!”

Fans also spotted Kit’s reaction to some of the scenes are found them relatable, if not as much as Conleth’s.

He listened as co-executive producer Bryan Cogman read aloud his character’s and Daenerys’s final scene.

As it is read, his shock becomes evident as he took a deep breath and fell back in his seat.
