‘Funniest person ever’ Will Smith praised by young King Richard co-stars Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton

King Richard stars Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton have opened up about working with Will Smith, describing him as the ‘funniest person ever’.

And we are totally not surprised in the slightest.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor, 53, stars as Richard Williams in the biopic, which lands in cinemas today.

The flick follows his determination for daughters Venus (Saniyya) and Serena Williams (Demi), and his battle to make sure they succeeded in tennis.

Spilling the beans to Metro.co.uk about working with the Hollywood legend, his young co-stars couldn’t help but sing his praises.

Saniyya told us: ‘Oh my gosh, he’s the funniest person ever! He’s so loving and very respectful.

‘What I love about him is that he creates a relationship with everyone on set. So he made everyone feel comfortable and we all became a family.’

Demi agreed: ‘He’s really fun, he’s really fun to work with and he’s so wise.

‘Everything he did, there was a lesson within it, so we learned a lot while being on set with him.’

Alongside Will, the pair steal the show in King Richard, portraying teenage versions of the sporting legends.

The close bond between Serena and Venus has been well documented in the past, with the pros cheering each other on in the stands throughout their careers.

This was something that the stars wanted to ensure that they got across on the big screen.

‘It didn’t take long for us to just immediately bond,’ Saniyya insisted. ‘There were times where I was like, “Oh my gosh, is she gonna like me?” But it was so real for us.’

Demi enthused: ‘It was real! To bond, we just did what every other teenage girl does, hang out, go to the mall, see a movie. We went to the Grove a lot, in California. Every other weekend, we were at the Grove.

‘We would just hang out and that, I think, really did help us with bonding and getting that sister-like energy.’

Well, they absolutely smashed it.

King Richard is in cinemas now.
