According to some scientific research and experts, it really is possible for a Full Moon to affect your mind. Kristen Rice, founder of Raw & Ritual, told Bustle: “Our innate, intuitive, evolutionary system is still wired to follow the cycles of the Moon.” Express.co.uk separates the Full Moon myths from the facts.

More research needs to be done in order to definitively know Full Moons trigger violent behaviour, but researchers have found links.

A National Criminal Justice Reference Service report examined Florida police records spanning more than five years.

It discovered an increase in homicide and aggravated assault cases around Full Moon periods.

Can a Full Moon lead to a lack of sleep?

A 2013 study published in Current Biology discovered sleep can be affected by lunar phases.

The study’s participants experienced disrupted sleep and spent less time in the deepest phase of sleep during a Full Moon.

They also slept less and reported to having the lowest quality of sleep during these times.

The participants were in a controlled environment the entire time and were unaware of the lunar phase.

However, the reason behind the Full Moon / sleep correlation remains a mystery.

One theory is human’s internal biological rhythms may somehow be linked to the lunar cycle.

Can a Full Moon trigger anxiety?

There is no scientific basis for this popular Full Moon myth.

However, Dr Carrie Pitzulo, founder of Ancient Magic, Modern Living, she still believes in it.

She told Bustle: A Full Moon is a big deal because it brings with it a lot of energy.

“Because of its intensity, it can make us feel anxious, manic, and emotional.”

Can a Full Moon adversely affect your love life?

People have believed changes in mood can be attributed to the Moon since time immemorial.

While there are some links, more research needs to be done to say that the Moon is responsible.

Since the moon can make some people more emotional, it is believed a trivial argument between lovers can quickly escalate out of proportion.

Davida Rappaport, a spiritual counsellor, told Bustle: “When there’s a Full Moon, sometimes referred to as a lover’s moon by poets, people dating or in relationships may feel more romantic and drawn to their partners.”
