Denise Van Outen has hit out at ‘irresponsible’ celebrities who break lockdown rules.

The 46-year-old presenter and singer, who has decided to postpone her small wedding to partner Eddie Boxshall, revealed she abided by the lockdown rules and has only recently managed to see her parents, after they received both doses of the vaccine.

‘That’s why you get paid well and get to have a nice time –because you also have a responsibility to be a role model to others,’ Denise said.

‘I just kept thinking we’ve all made a lot of sacrifices you know, so I find it quite irresponsible.

‘If you’re in media, it comes with a certain responsibility – you can’t have it all nice.’

Denise added to the Mirror that while she has made mistakes in the past, it’s unacceptable if celebrities intentionally act in a certain way because they think they are above the law.

Last year, Downing Street stressed that coronavirus rules apply to all members of the public – including celebrities – after Rita Ora and Laurence Fox both broke lockdown rules.

Singer Rita apologised after hosting a birthday celebration, while actor Laurence claimed that he had a ‘large group over to lunch’ and that they all hugged, as well as telling his 256k Twitter followers to ‘stay out’ and ‘protect your rights’.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson commented on both Rita and Laurance’s flouting of the rules, saying in a statement via the PA news agency: ‘It’s important that everybody in society sets an example by following the rules – that is for every member of the public including celebrities.’

Denise’s comments come after the news that she’s delayed her wedding to partner Eddie in order to throw ‘a big party with no restrictions’.

Talking to The Sun, Denise, 46, said: ‘We’re not engaged but we are preparing to get married. It will definitely happen but we’re not in a rush.’
