Having been hyped up to the Hollywood hills for months and smashing box office records in its opening weekend, there’s no real need for Frozen 2’s cast to carry on their promotional tour.

Even so, leading lady Idina Menzel has heaped high praise on the second instalment, saying she thinks it’s better than the first – and even prefers the new theme song to Let It Go.

The actor, who plays Queen Elsa in the world-obsessed franchise, agrees with many fans around the globe and says the second film has a stronger plot and preferable music to the 2013 debut movie, which has become the biggest animated film of all time.

Idina, 48, said: ‘I would just go on the record saying I think this film is better than the first. I do, I love it, you know?’ before admitting she even loves the main song in the sequel Into The Unknown over Let It Go.

She told Billboard’s Pop Shop Podcast: ‘I love Let It Go, obviously; it’s one of the great gifts of my life to have this song and this character in my life and what it represents and how it’s allowed me to connect with audiences all over the world. It’s changed my life.

‘But I actually really enjoy – except for the really high note that’s going to give me problems on a day where I have a cold – I’ve loved singing Into The Unknown. It makes me wanna cry, it gives me goosebumps when I listen to the underscore of it, the rolling bassline and the rhythm of everything. I just love it.’

Idina said she’s been impressed by Frozen songwriters, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who last year became the first ever double Egot winner, for their work on the sequel.

She said: ‘It wasn’t trying to write another big hooky melody. They wanted to make sure that this furthered the story properly and that they deepened and enriched these characters and helped them evolved into the young women that they are.

‘So, they always come from story first, which is why I think that they are so successful.’

Idina recently revealed that she is keen to continue Elsa’s story in years to come. When asked whether she would make a third Frozen film, she told BANG Showbiz: ‘Of course.’

Frozen II is out in UK cinemas now.
