From whisky to shortbread, Walker's appoints a new finance director

Following the decision of current finance director Dave Edwards to retire this Summer, Walker’s Shortbread has announced the appointment of Norman Ross as his replacement, following an extensive recruitment exercise.

Norman Ross is currently finance director of Speymalt Whisky Distributors, better known as Gordon & MacPhail.

He studied at Edinburgh Napier University and Abertay University, qualifiying as a Chartered Accountant in 1999.

Prior to Gordon & MacPhail, he was financial controller of Highlands and Islands Airports.

Edwards was the first ever finance director to be appointed at Walker’s Shortbread 13 years ago, establishing the finance function across the company’s global operations.

Since his appointment, the company has expanded into more than 90 countries and increased its business substantially.

It now employs more than 1,500 people across its sites in Elgin and Aberlour and holds a Royal Warrant for Shortbread & Oatcakes by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen.

Chairman Bob Brannan commented: “Norman joins Walker’s at an exciting time in its development having demonstrated his credentials at Gordon & MacPhail, a progressive and dynamic Speyside business with international reach.”

Ross added: “I have long admired the company and its rich heritage, and am excited to be part of this next chapter for Walker’s as it continues to grow worldwide.”

He will be joining the company in the first half of 2021, with a formal start date yet to be announced.
